Two persons alleged to have gruesomely murdered a seven-year-old girl at Twabidi No.1 near Dadiesoaba in the Asutifi South District of the Brong Ahafo Region are in the grip of the police.

The suspects, Kwasi Saabour, 47, a revenue collector in the area and his accomplice, Mary Opoku, 18, allegedly clubbed seven-year-old Emmanuella Sarpomaah to death in a cocoa farm after the deceased was lured from the church to the nearby farm.

Their motive was yet to be ascertained because DAILY GUIDE was hinted that no part of the body was removed to suggest that it was for a ritual purpose.

The suspected murderers had since been remanded into prison custody by a Goaso District Court presided over by Sidney Braimah and they will re-appear before the court tomorrow Tuesday October 8.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, explained to DAILY GUIDE that the sad incident occurred on September 18, 2013 when the mother of the deceased, Juliet Kyere, 32, went to church at the Living Calvary Methodist Church at Twabidi No.1 with Emmanuella.

ASP Tawiah said while service was in progress, Emmanuella unceremoniously left the church and never returned. A search party was organised but the little girl was not found.

Some of the church members later informed the distressed mother that during the church service they saw Emmanuella in the company of Mary Opoku.

When Mary was confronted, she initially denied any knowledge of the whereabouts of the girl, but when she was pressed further, she disclosed that the little girl was dead and that Kwasi Saabour was responsible for her death.

She claimed that she was going to the stream to fetch firewood with the deceased but Kwasi Saabour snatched the girl from her and took her to a nearby cocoa farm where he clubbed her to death.

The matter was reported to the Dadiesoaba Police and Kwasi Saabour was arrested the next day, but he denied Mary’s claims.

Mary led the police together with Saabour to the spot where the act was committed; and the body of the little girl was found in a nearby bush with bruises at the back of the head.

The body was retrieved and deposited at the Goaso Government Hospital Morgue pending autopsy.

Mary later told the police that she was scared to speak the truth because the alleged killer had invoked three deities “Antoa, Apape and Ahantamo” to strike her dead if she dared tell anybody about the act.

The mother of the deceased, Juliet Kyere, had told the police that a day before the incident, Mary had come to her house and tried to take the little girl out to supposedly pluck oranges, but she refused to allow her child go with the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Police PRO has advised parents to be wary of suspicious characters who parade around them with the intension of offering help to their children, and also be security conscious since the police cannot be everywhere at the same time in their efforts to protect lives and property.
