Counsel for Mr Tsatsu Tsikata, Former Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Prof. E.V.O Danquah, has expressed shock at the issuance of an arrest warrant on his client, for failing to appear in Court on Monday, July 11, 2005, when his case was called.

According to Professor Danquah, the Accra Fast Track Court had not issued any hearing notice to neither him nor his client and said the action was not in line with court procedures.

Mr Tsatsu Tsikata is standing trial for allegedly causing financial loss of about 2.3 billion cedis through a loan which he, on behalf of GNPC guaranteed for Valley Farms, a private Cocoa Producing Company.

In an interview, Prof. Danquah said the Accra Fast Track Court did not issue neither him nor his client a hearing notice and said he was seriously surprised by the publication that a warrant had been issued for the arrest of his client.

According to him, his client, Tsatsu Tsikata, traveled two weeks ago and had no knowledge of an appearance in court.

Prof. Danquah said he was doing everything possible to take the next course for his client.

Responding to whether he "smell a rat" about the turn of events with the Accra Fast Track High Court, Prof. Danquah maintained that the issuance of the arrest warrant for his client was unfortunate and surprising, since his client had not broken jail
