Suspected robber beaten to pulp

But for the timely intervention of the Ashaiman Police, a 24-year-old suspected armed robber would have been lynched by an angry mob at Lebanon, a suburb of Ashaiman.

The suspect, Ishmael Nartey, a resident of Ashaiman together with his accomplice, who managed to escape were said to have stabbed Salomey Adu, a 19-year-old girl in an attempt to rob her.

The robbers stabbed the lady on the left shoulder and asked her to keep quiet when they entered her house under the pretext of being thirsty and needed some water to drink. But the lady mustered courage and shouted for help which attracted other residents to the scene forcing the robbers to flee. They were however, given a hot chase and Ishmael, unfortunately, was apprehended. The angry mob descended heavily on him and beat him mercilessly till the police came to his rescue. His accomplice however, managed to flee.

Salomey was rushed to the Trinity Community Hospital at Lebanon where she is receiving medical attention.

A search conducted on a bag the robbers were carrying revealed robbery accoutrements like, military camouflage, jack knife, machete and screw drivers.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Seth Tay, the Ashaiman District Police Commander briefed DAILY GUIDE that at about 3:30 pm, his outfit had information that a suspected armed robber was being lynched at the aforementioned area and quickly dispatched the Lebanon Police personnel to the scene.

According to him, the suspect was severely beaten and left unconscious before police arrived at the scene. They quickly sent him to the Ashaiman Polyclinic for treatment.

He advised the public to desist from meting out instant justice on suspects but to hand them over to police for investigation and prosecution, adding the suspect would be made to face the full rigors of the law.
