The suspects are in police custody
The Ghana Police Service has announced a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in the Upper West Region, following a series of coordinated operations.
In a press release dated April 6, 2026, the Upper West Regional Police Command said it had intensified intelligence-led operations, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects and the seizure of large quantities of suspected narcotic substances across the region.
Police intercept 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels of suspected drugs in Upper West
According to the statement, the command recorded several seizures over the past four weeks across different locations, including Eremon in the Lawra District, Nadowli barrier and Loho in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Charhe and Siriyiri in the Wa Municipality, and Hamile in the Lambussie District.
“Over the past four (4) weeks, the Command has recorded series of narcotic seizures across multiple districts, including Eremon in Lawra District, Nadowli barrier and Loho in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Charhe and Siriyiri in the Wa Municipality, Hamile in the Lambussie District,” portions of the statement read.
The police indicated that the seizures included 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and eight other assorted consignments believed to be Indian hemp.
“The seizures comprised Two Hundred and Eighteen (218) compressed slabs, fifty-four (54) parcels and eight (8) other assorted consignments of substances suspected to be India hemp,” it said.
The statement further detailed a major interception on April 3, 2026.
Police said a patrol team intercepted a taxi, a Toyota Corolla, at Eremon in the Lawra District, leading to the discovery of 140 compressed slabs of the substance. Two suspects, Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame, were arrested in connection with the case.
Another operation on April 1, 2026, also led to arrests at the Wa-Loho barrier.
It further indicated that police personnel on duty retrieved 51 compressed slabs from a Royal VVIP bus travelling from Wa towards Jirapa. Three suspects identified as Stephen Lomotey, Solomon King, and Uritius Tobopalee were arrested.
“On April 3, 2026, Police patrol team intercepted a taxi Toyota corolla vehicle at Eremon in the Lawra District leading to the discovery of One Hundred and Forty (140) compressed slabs of the substance. Two suspects namely; Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame were arrested,” the police indicated.
“Further, on April 1, 2026, Police personnel on duty at the Wa-Loho barrier retrieved fifty-one (51) compressed slabs from Royal VVIP bus travelling from Wa towards Jirapa. Three (3) suspects identified as Stephen Lomotey, Solomon King and Uritius Tobopalee were also arrested,” the police added.
The command noted that most of the intercepted substances were being transported northbound towards Hamile for delivery.
It added that the suspects are currently at various stages of investigation and prosecution, while the vehicles involved have been impounded.
The police also issued a strong warning to transport operators and unions.
The statement cautioned them to desist from allowing their vehicles to be used for transporting illicit drugs, noting that such vehicles risk being confiscated by the state, in addition to prosecution of owners when caught.
