The Northern Regional Police Command in Tamale has arrested three suspected armed robbers, including two Level 400 students of the University for Development Studies (UDS), in a targeted operation that led to the retrieval of weapons and suspected stolen items.
The suspects, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, are reported to be final-year students from the Nyankpala and Dungu campuses of UDS.
Police say the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on rising robbery incidents in parts of the Tamale metropolis.
According to preliminary police investigations, a search conducted at the suspects’ hostel rooms led to the discovery of a pistol, a jackknife, machetes, and a Haojue motorbike valued at GH¢19,000.
According to reports on Ghana Chronicles, Officers also retrieved an iPhone 17, estimated at GH¢21,000, believed to be linked to their alleged criminal activities.
Sources within the Police Command indicate that the suspects are currently in custody, assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to determine the full extent of their operations and identify any accomplices.
The Police have assured the public of their commitment to ensuring safety and security across the region, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
