The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has admonished all Chief Inspectors taking part in this year’s Police Competitive Promotional Examinations (PCPE) to put in their maximum effort in order to meet the required pass mark.

He stated that the examination will be based solely on merit to ensure that only qualified candidates are selected into the Police Academy this year.

The IGP made these remarks in response to rumours about favouritism in the upcoming examination during an interview with the Daily Graphic.

While debunking the claims, he encouraged candidates to study diligently and adhere strictly to all rules and regulations governing the examination.

“On behalf of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the Police Council, I wish all candidates well in this year’s examination.

“All candidates should note that the administration does not have any hand in the selection process. It is only your performance that will speak for you, so put in your best.

“Nobody from anywhere is going to favour anyone over another. Do not listen to rumours; focus on your studies. If you meet the pass mark, you will be given the opportunity,” he said.

Yohuno acknowledged the high stakes involved due to the large number of candidates.

“You cannot blame anyone because all the candidates are qualified. However, we are aware that we cannot accommodate such large numbers at once,” he added.

This year, the Police Administration has given the green light to 7,133 Chief Inspectors across the country to participate in the competitive examination, which is aimed at nurturing a new crop of senior police officers.

The examination is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at three centres in Accra.

Briefing, orientation and other examination-related formalities, to be conducted by the University of Cape Coast (UCC), were held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the National Police Training School grounds.

All candidates have also been provided with an orientation guide to help them understand the rules and regulations governing the examination.

In an earlier circular, the Police Administration stated that “out of the total number of candidates writing the examination, the top 700, in order of merit, will be selected to form Cadet Course 54 and Cadet Course 55 respectively.”
