Police arrest six suspected criminals in intelligence-led operation

The Ghana Police Service have arrested six suspected criminals and a female bar operator during a targeted intelligence-led operation aimed at dismantling armed robbery networks in the municipality.

The operation, carried out on April 30, 2026, at about 6:20 p.m., follows a recent robbery incident at the Ashaiman Main Market on April 20, which heightened security concerns among traders and residents.

According to a situational report from the Ashaiman District Command, "intelligence gathered by the police pointed to a suspected arms supplier believed to be operating from the New York enclave within Ashaiman."

"Acting on the tip-off, the District Commander, DSP Orlando Joseph Adzokpa, led a team that included the District Crime Officer, ASP Ibrahim Bukari, two investigators, officers from Alpha Papa 1, and five Community Police Assistants to the location."

Upon arrival at a local drinking spot identified as a suspected hideout, the suspects reportedly attempted to flee, causing damage to property, including a snooker table, a glass door and a wooden fence. Police, however, managed to arrest all individuals present.

The suspects have been identified as Prince Owusu, 30, Mohammed Ali, 22, Isaac Doe, 30, Ahmed Mondy, 25, Aziz Abubakar, 18 and Frank Wokrachie, 21.

A female suspect, Gifty Ladzagla, who operates the bar, was also arrested.

A search conducted in a chamber-and-hall apartment linked to Gifty Ladzagla led to the discovery of twelve wraps of a substance suspected to be narcotic drugs, two iPhones, one Android phone, two cutlasses, three knives, four military camouflage long-sleeve shirts and two pairs of camouflage trousers.

Police also retrieved two unregistered Honda “jungle” motorbikes believed to have been used in criminal activities.

All suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with investigations, while the retrieved items have been secured as exhibits.

Police say the suspects will undergo thorough screening, and those found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Ashaiman District Command has assured the public that such intelligence-driven operations will be sustained to dismantle criminal networks and restore safety in the area.

Residents have also been urged to cooperate with law enforcement by providing timely information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime.

The case is being handled by Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Hanyabui of the District Criminal Investigations Department (DCID).
