The Ghana Police Service has arrested two young men suspected of involvement in an armed robbery that occurred on Saturday, May 30, 2026, along the Tumu-Kowie road in the Sissala East District.

The suspects, identified as Seidu Muizu, 20, and Salifu Mutala, 22, were apprehended following a swift intelligence-led operation by the Upper West Regional Police Command.

According to a police statement issued on June 1, 2026, the duo allegedly robbed three persons at gunpoint and made away with an unregistered Apsonic motorbike.

Police further stated that investigations led to the recovery of the stolen Apsonic motorbike, as well as another unregistered Loujia motorbike believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.

Both motorbikes have been impounded as exhibits.

Speaking on the arrests, ACP Peter Kamasa, Deputy Upper West Regional Police Commander, commended the rapid response of his team.

“The swift intelligence-led operation demonstrates our commitment to ensuring the safety of residents in the region,” ACP Kamasa said.

“These arrests send a strong message that criminal elements will not find refuge in the Upper West Region.”

Police sources indicate that the suspects may be linked to a recent wave of robberies that have terrorised residents of Tumu and surrounding communities. Investigations are being expanded to determine their possible involvement in other criminal activities reported in the district.

The two suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

Efforts are also underway to recover the firearm allegedly used in the robbery.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has appealed to the public for continued cooperation, urging residents to provide timely information to support the fight against crime.

“We commend members of the public for their cooperation so far and encourage residents to continue providing useful information,” ACP Kamasa added.
