A 40-year-old farmer, Michael Asare, has been sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment for defiling his 13-year-old daughter at Klo Agogo in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The sentence was handed down by Justice Kwesi Appiatse Abaidoo at the Odumase Circuit Court on June 12, 2026, after the accused pleaded guilty to the offence.

It would be recalled that the Asesewa Police arrested Michael Asare following a complaint that he had sexually abused his daughter.

According to a report by 3news.com on June 13, 2026, the victim, who lived in the same room as her father, alleged that he forcibly had sex with her on several occasions.

“She further told investigators that during the abuse, her father gagged her by putting cloth into her mouth to prevent her from shouting,” the report said.

The victim later reported the incident to the Assembly Member for the area, Herold Kofi Kumah, who subsequently lodged a complaint with the Obawale Police, leading to the arrest of the suspect on June 9, 2026.

Confirming the incident in an interview with Onuaonline's Nenebi Ayertey David, Kumah said, “I have handed the suspect to the Police for further action.”

Following investigations, the case was brought before the Odumase Circuit Court where Michael Asare admitted to the offence.

Meanwhile, Michael Asare pleaded guilty to sleeping with his own daughter and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment by the court.
