The Ghana Police Service on August 24, 2026, announced the arrest of five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer at Agona Fie, near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
A video has since emerged showing the robbery, which reportedly occurred on August 20, 2026, during which the gold buyer, identified as Seth Kobina, was shot in the chest.
In the video, one of the suspects who has been arrested is seen chatting with the gold dealer inside his shop.
Suddenly, another suspect enters the shop holding a handgun, which he points at the dealer.
The first suspect then walks towards the door, opens it and closes it again.
The suspect holding the gun can be seen ordering the dealer to hand over some of the items in the shop.
Kobina takes out a bunch of keys, opens one of the drawers on his table and retrieves an item believed to be gold before handing it over to the armed robber.
The suspects appear to demand more items, prompting the dealer to open his hands, apparently indicating that there was nothing else in the shop.
The deceased then moves towards the robber before he is shot in the chest.
According to the police, Seth Kobina was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police said preliminary investigations, including a review of CCTV footage, identified 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, alias “Vandam”, as the alleged leader of the gang.
He was arrested on Thursday, August 21, at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta.
A search on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.

The suspect subsequently fell ill and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three other suspects within the Agona Nkwanta area.
They have been identified as Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die”, 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale”, 30.
The police also arrested another suspect, Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial”, at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region.
A search of Quayeson’s residence resulted in the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
The police said that during investigations, Quayeson identified the late Amponsah as the person who allegedly shot and killed the gold buyer.
He also identified Odoom as one of the suspects captured in the CCTV footage during the robbery.
The four surviving suspects are currently assisting the police with investigations as efforts continue to arrest other persons suspected to have been involved in the robbery and murder.
