Police interdict officer over death of 23-year-old Central University law student

The Ghana Police Service has identified, arrested and interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng in connection with the death of 23-year-old Ivan Baidoo.

According to the Police, the officer was identified following initial investigations into a viral video concerning the incident, which occurred on the Tema Motorway on August 27, 2026.

In a post shared on Saturday, September 12, 2026, the Police Service said the General Corporal is currently in custody as investigations into the circumstances surrounding Baidoo’s death continue.

The Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been tasked with establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is also investigating the conduct of the officer involved.

The Ghana Police Service assured the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigations.

The family of Ivan Baidoo had appealed for information to clarify the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to accounts shared by the family, and making rounds on X on September 6, Baidoo was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle allegedly being pursued by a police vehicle prior to the fatal accident.

The family is therefore urging anyone with information or footage related to the incident to come forward.

A public appeal poster circulating in connection with the case offers a reward of GH$50,000 for credible information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of individuals responsible.

Meanwhile, investigations into the exact circumstances of the crash remain ongoing.

Baidoo, identified in related appeals as a former Santa (2024) and Quaque House Prefect, was described by relatives as a promising young man whose sudden death has left them devastated.
