As a matter of urgency, the chief justice of Ghana needs to carry out an extensive training of all Tribunal Chairmen/women, Magistrates and Justices who hand down punishment in the various courts to know exactly what sentencing of offenders is all about. In fact, it is very unprofessional the kind of punishment given to convicts in many cases and renders the legal system entirely stupid. Punishment in any case in pursuance of justice which by itself or its delivery is to enhance justice must be commensurate to the offense committed. In carrying out punishment or in the convicting process, account is taken of the value of the subject and consequences thereof. Therefore, reason is given for the volume of punishment melted out. It is therefore very ridiculous the way Ghanaian courts hand down punishment in the law courts without recourse to professional, legal and human rights procedures entrenched in law and justice delivery. The chief justice and the minister of justice and attorney-general must do their work to ensure that things are put right to safeguard human right and dignity in justice delivery.
