A car was stolen and you think that deserves twenty (20)years? A CAR! So if somone attacks and hurts or kills a person, what would you recommend as an adequate punishment?

Any crime which is seen to merit more than 9 months in prison should be tried in a High Court. This would prevent idiotic sentences handed down by unqualified and/or vindictive magistrates. I am not for one moment suggesting that this particular crime is not serious, but twenty years? Do you know how much it will cost to feed and house them for twenty years? Did they hurt anyone? So what if he did kill them, then what would the sentence have been? We must be proportionate with the sentencing of criminals. I have read situatations where people have been given inordinately long sentences by magistrates for stealing a bunch of unguarded plantains. Local magistrates should not be allowed to sentence anyone for more than nine months. They should be able to send a case to a higher court if they think the offence deserving of a longer term in prison. It should only be left to High Court judges to hand down such lengthy sentences not local magistrates.

As an American I have wondered about some of the sentences that don't seem to match the crime. I guess it's a Ghana thing.

If you want to know the truth, I will tell you that there are much more injustice in America than in Ghana - and we all see these on the media!
