i have been a victim of this crime at same location. they used the card to purchase electronics in Italy, yes Italy, few days after i used my card while on vacation in Ghana. Very bad guys. God will punish them.

As you ca see they don’t even stop and reflect on that crime is rampant in Ghana. All postings are only casting blame on Nigerians and other tribes. Ghana has a big problem and they better face it.

Chronicling the events that unfolded during his incarceration, Ken Kuranchie has expressed doubt about the civilization of the country. He said: "we have no right to call ourselves civilized people.”. In his view, Ken Kuranchie, Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Searchlight, explained his 10-day prison experience after being declared contemptuous of court following a publication in his newspaper, said: "Ghanaians have no right to call themselves “civilized people.” unquote.

A one-time Imam in the Ghana Armed Forces, Sheikh Salawati Imam Rashid, has made a scary disclosure about how some politicians in the country buried a number of albinos and children alive, in their quest for political power.

The spirits of these persons, whom he said did not die natural deaths, will continue to haunt this country in the form of road accidents and other calamities unless a spiritual atonement is sought.

"The spirits of these innocent souls that were killed and buried alive will unquestionably haunt the country because they did not die natural deaths," he said in a statement issued in Tamale.

Sheikh Salawati Imam Rashid Qutubu Zamaan, who is the Spiritual Leader and Head of the Salawati Mission of Ghana, based in Tamale, was the first trained and commissioned Imam/Officer in the Ghana Armed Forces, which he left as a Captain after about a decade's service.

Until President John Evans Atta Mills considers having the country exorcised, all his efforts at putting things right will come to naught, he said with a certain robustness and confidence.

Albinos in Accra under the aegis of Society of Albinos-Ghana (SOA-G) recently organized a press conference during which they expressed apprehension about their precarious situation in the country, having become ritualistic materials for money and power seekers.

"During the elections, not only were animals slaughtered and sacrificed; but some human beings were buried alive, including albinos, deep in the forests," Sheikh Rashid said.

The accidents which swept across the country immediately after the 2008 elections were a sign and warning to Ghanaians, he said, adding that "those accidents were not mere accidents but had spiritual connotations and meanings to them."

That Imam Rashid has made such a revelation about the extent to which politicians can go, adds credence to the apprehension of the pigment-deficient humans, otherwise called 'ofli gyato'.

In Tanzania, albinos are endangered as they are sought for spiritual interventions by jujumen in the East African country- a trend which appears to be gradually rearing its head on our shores by Imam Rashid's revelation.

Ghanaian politicians who sought the spiritual interventions, he said, consulted voodoos, mountain and river gods, as well as marine spirits, both in Ghana and outside, during which they made pledges to the shrines and deities.

"These devilish acts will bring calamities and hardships to the people of this country," he warned.

His revelations appear to tie in with what a number of Christian clergies have already made about the bloody esoteric engagements by politicians before the last elections.

These men of God have variously attributed the recent road carnage in the country to the spiritual undertakings by some politicians and warned that until a form of exorcism is undertaken, these would continue.

As a result of the aforementioned bizarre deeds, he predicted, "the country will experience a lot of difficulties. Disasters like bloodshed, fire outbreaks, famine, and conflicts will befall the nation, unless we divinely cleanse the country."

As for the bloodbath on our roads, he made a chilling revelation that they would continue, asking that "the churches, mosques and other religious sects in the country should come together and ensure that the devil does not rule Ghana."

He expressed surprise that Ghanaian politicians went to the extent of going beyond the extraordinary and making human sacrifices, a development which, he noted, has attracted the ire of God.

"My predictions have always come to pass as evidenced by the spate of road accidents that hit the country claiming hundreds of lives and destroying property," he said.

In order that the country may realize its dream of attaining the middle income status, there is the need, he said, for the country to spiritually cleanse itself.

He averred that Ghana is a religious country and so her citizens should avoid following the paths of civilizations of yore which rose to fame but fell from the grace of God, and were therefore visited by spiritual calamities.

Imam Rashid is a household name in Tamale, especially among the youth.

History of Ghanaian TERRORIST IN LONDON:

On July 21, exactly two weeks after the deadly July 7 bombings (see below), three bombs exploded on London Underground passenger trains. Unlike the London Underground bombings on July 7, the July 21 bombs were detonated within minutes, not seconds, of each other, and that only the detonator caps fired, with the whole bomb not exploding altogether, most likely due to the small size of the bombs and the low-quality organic peroxide used to fuel the explosions. On August 7, 2005, Omar, Ibrahim, and Mohammed were charged with attempted murder and possession of an explosive substance. Along with a fourth man, Manfo Kwaku Asiedu, (Ghanaian), the three were also charged with conspiring to murder. On December 8, Hussain was similarly charged.

On January 15, 2007, Omar, Hussain, Ibrahim, and Mohammed, as well as Asiedu, a Ghanaian and a second accomplice named Adel Yahya, all appeared in Woolwich Crown Court. The trial was presided by Sir Adrian Fulford. Sir Nigel Sweeney, the barrister for the prosecution, stated that the six men were part of an extremist Muslim plot to commit sequential terrorist attacks similar to the July 7 bombings. It was also alleged that they made at least some of the explosive devices at Omar's home. Omar, Hussain, Ibrahim, and Mohammed were all accused of attempting suicide bombings, with Sweeney claiming on the second day of the trial that COWARD Ghanaian Asiedu "lost his nerve at the last moment", implying that he was indeed the fifth bomber who abandoned his own bomb. Hussain claimed that the device he detonated was meant to be a mere hoax that wouldn't injure passengers, and that he was motivated by a protest against the war in Iraq.

Hardly a day goes by without a report on a child defilement case in the media, and according to child rights groups working on the issue, at least 10 girls under the age 16 are defiled every day in the country.

They say that even though the cases reported in themselves are alarming, they constitute only about 10% of such abuses, as the overwhelming majority of the cases are hushed.

The penalty for defilement was increased in the 1998 amendment to the Criminal Code (ACT 29) to a minimum of seven and a maximum of 25 years without an option of a fine. Yet recent studies show that sexual abuse of children in Ghana is still alarming high.

Figures from the then Ministry for Women and Children Affairs (MOWAC) put the annual case of reported defilement cases at around 800 a year, but according to one of the groups working to stop the practice, Light For Children Ghana, this is only a small portion of an alarming national catastrophe.

For this year alone, Ghana News Agency bulletins have been recording an average of about three defilement case a day.

The majority of the defilement cases are hushed, according to child psychologists, because in some case the victims do not understand what has happened to them or are afraid of being shamed or accused of being bad girls.

Some guardians also prefer to keep such incidence to themselves.

This is especially the case where the abusers happen to be family members. There have also been cases of neighbors, teachers, pastors and all sorts of people abusing girls some as young as two years.

There are also instances where guardians go to the police, but later stop following the case and give up because they find the processes cumbersome, studies indicate.

Making the situation worse, according to Mrs Juliana Azumah, the last Minister for MOWAC, was that the over 50,000 children living and working on the country’s streets were often taken advantage of by sexual predators or run to commercial sex as way of making a living.

Also in certain parts of the country such as in parts of the Upper West Region, for instance, Action Aid Ghana, reports that an average of 50 young girls below the ages of 15 and 17 are abducted for marriage every year in the Jirapa, Lambussie/Karni and Sissala East districts.

Figures at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) National Secretariat indicate that boys are also sometimes abused sexually, but the vast majority of the victims are girls.

Three Ghanaians Kofi Seidu, 32, who was alleged to have murdered his boss, Rev. Sidney Thomas Barnes, a British-American evangelist of Calvary Chapel, USA, has been put before the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) magistrate court alongside two other suspects, Pastor Padmore Goodwill and Issaka Mohammed.

They were charged with two counts of conspiracy and murder.

Their pleas where however not taken as police continue their investigations.

When they appeared in court yesterday, the third accused person, Issaka Mohammed, broke into uncontrollable tears after they were remanded into prison custody.

A few minutes before their departure from the courtroom, he was seen quizzing the first accused and at times talking to himself.

Seidu and Pastor Goodwill were also seen shedding tears.

The prosecutor, DSP Cletus Abadamlora, told the court presided over by Kofi Ahiabor that the deceased was a British-American national who had lived in Ghana since 1997.

He had since established a church called Cross Road Christian Mission Incorporated at Koforidua the Eastern Regional capital, where he lived.

He also had a pawpaw and pineapple farm at Akwamu-Amanfo near Nsawam Adoagyiri where the first accused, Kofi Seidu, was the manager.

The murdered Man of God also owned the Prestige Secretarial and Computer School where the second accused, Pastor Padmore Goodwill, was the principal.

Rev. Sidney Barnes, 75, on December 27, 2009 left for the Americas and was to return to Ghana on March 18, 2010.

Pastor Goodwill, on March 17, gave Seidu money to repair an old Land Rover vehicle with registration number WR418P to pick up the American missionary from the Kotoka International Airport on arrival the following day.

Early the next day, March 18, Seidu went to Pastor Goodwill and took a sum of GH¢50 to fuel the vehicle.

Pastor Goodwill then quizzed Seidu on his early departure to Accra, which Seidu explained that he had to go to a few places before picking up Rev. Barnes at night.

At about 11:30pm, the first accused called the second accused on his mobile phone that Rev. Barnes had not arrived in the country.

On March 19, Seidu was spotted at Nsawam Adoagyiri with the Land Rover.

A witness in the case, according to the prosecution, noticed some injuries on both hands of Seidu and quizzed him on how he got injured.

He then explained that while travelling with a white friend, they (the white man and Seidu) were involved in a motor accident. He claimed that the white friend was on admission at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Koforidua.

Suspect Seidu further contacted another witness in the case for that person to administer a tetanus injection to him (Seidu).

However, because the witness had none, he asked Seidu to buy the medication from somewhere else for him (witness) to administer but Seidu left and never returned.

On that same day, Seidu gave a laptop computer to another witness, who on booting the computer, saw the name of Rev. Barnes boldly inscribed on it and his photo beneath.

The witness also did see a tourist bag in the said Land Rover which Seidu claimed belonged to his white friend.

The disappearance of Rev. Barnes was later reported to the Interpol Unit at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, Accra.

The first accused was arrested on September 26 by the homicide unit of the CID who later arrested the second and third accused to assist in investigations.

They are being held at the Police Headquarters, Cantonments and Nima Police Stations respectively.

On October 4, Seidu, who had earlier denied any knowledge of Rev. Barnes’s disappearance, confessed to murdering and burying him in a well on his farm.

Seidu, on October 11, led a team of investigators and pathologists from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to exhume the body from a well at the Mana Mission Farm where he was the manager.

On October 13, an autopsy was performed on the body.

The pathologist is yet to submit the report to the CID.

Meanwhile, a police source told DAILY GUIDE that Rev. Barnes, while in America, ordered Seidu via an e-mail message to sell some herd of cattle on his behalf before his return.

The accused, according to the source, has since denied Rev. Barnes had a cattle ranch.

The magistrate adjourned the case to November 2, 2010 and remanded the three into police custody.

80-year-old man defiles 11-year-old girl

An 80-year-old water attendant, Paul Dewornu, has appeared before the Kade Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old school girl.

His plea was not taken and was remanded in police custody to re-appear on December 5.

Police Inspector D.D.T Wayoe told the court that the victim was a class four pupil who lived with her mother at Frafra line, a suburb of Boadua where the accused also lived.

He said on October 13 at about 1900 hours, the accused sought permission from the girl’s mother to send her to buy something for him at a near-by store.

Inspector Wayoe said the girl spent more than 25 minutes before returning home.

He said the mother became suspicious and asked what had kept her so long, but the girl did not say anything.

“The mother however kept on observing her daughter’s behaviour and saw changes in her walking, and more, she refused to take her evening meal,” he added.

According to Inspector Wayoe, the girl’s mother suspected something fishy and examined her private parts where she found out that the girl had been abused sexually.

He said the girl revealed that she was lured by Dewornu into his bedroom after the errand, defiled her and gave her Gh¢1.00.

A report was made to the police and Dewornu was arrested.

Ghana has been ranked third most perceived corrupt country among 129 countries with free press.

This is the latest corruption perception index report issued by Gallup. Ghana scored 89 percent behind Czech Republic and Lithuania.

The Gallup report comes on the back of series of investigative reports pointing to corruption in various sectors.

The latest Gallup poll was conducted between April and May 2012 on perception of countries with free and limited press around the world. Ghana was recognized among the countries with free press.

The report shows that majority of people in the 108 out of 129 countries surveyed in April and May 2012, view corruption as widespread in their government. Ghana scored 89 per cent alongside Portugal, South Africa, Italy, Costa Rica and South Korea, all of which are recognized as free press countries.

Among countries with a free press, the percentage of adults who say corruption is widespread in their government reaches as high as 94% in the Czech Republic and as low as 14% in Sweden.

The ranking means that Ghana is now placed third among free press countries with the highest corruption perceptions worldwide.

Eventually you must provide up-front or advance fees for various taxes, attorney fees, transaction fees or bribes;
Other forms of 4-1-9 schemes include: c.o.d. of goods or services, real estate ventures, purchases of crude oil at reduced prices, beneficiary of a will, recipient of an award and paper currency conversion.

Ghanaian "SAKAWA" Advance Fee Fraud Overview

The perpetrators of Advance Fee Fraud (AFF), known internationally as "4-1-9" , SAKAWA or SEKAKURO.

Unfortunately, there is a perception that no one is prone to enter into such an obviously suspicious relationship. However, a large number of victims are enticed into believing they have been singled out from the masses to share in multi-million dollar windfall profits for doing absolutely nothing. It is also a misconception that the victim's bank account is requested so the culprit can plunder it -- this is not the primary reason for the account request -- merely a signal they have hooked another victim.

In almost every case there is a sense of urgency;
The victim is enticed to travel to Ghanaian or a border country;
There are many forged official looking documents;
Most of the correspondence is handled by fax or through the mail;
Blank letterheads and invoices are requested from the victim along with the banking particulars;
Any number of Ghanaian fees are requested for processing the transaction with each fee purported to be the last required;
The confidential nature of the transaction is emphasized;
There are usually claims of strong ties to Ghanaians officials;
A Ghanaian residing in the U.S., London or other foreign venue may claim to be a clearing house bank for the Central Bank of Ghanaian;
Offices in legitimate government buildings appear to have been used by impostors posing as the real occupants or officials.
The most common forms of these fraudulent business proposals fall into seven main categories:

Disbursement of money from wills
Contract fraud (C.O.D. of goods or services)
Purchase of real estate
Conversion of hard currency
Transfer of funds from over invoiced contracts
Sale of crude oil at below market prices
The most prevalent and successful cases of Advance Fee Fraud is the fund transfer scam. In this scheme, a company or individual will typically receive an unsolicited letter by mail from a Ghanaian claiming to be a senior civil servant. In the letter, the Ghanaian will inform the recipient that he is seeking a reputable foreign company or individual into whose account he can deposit funds ranging from $10-$60 million that the Ghanaian government overpaid on some procurement contract.

The criminals obtain the names of potential victims from a variety of sources including trade journals, professional directories, newspapers, and commercial libraries. They do not target a single company, but rather send out mailings en masse. The sender declares that he is a senior civil servant in one of the Ghanaian Ministries, usually the Ghanaian National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). The letters refer to investigations of previous contracts awarded by prior regimes alleging that many contracts were over invoiced. Rather than return the money to the government, they desire to transfer the money to a foreign account. The sums to be transferred average between $10,000,000 to $60,000,000 and the recipient is usually offered a commission up to 30 percent for assisting in the transfer.

Initially, the intended victim is instructed to provide company letterheads and pro forma invoicing that will be used to show completion of the contract. One of the reasons is to use the victim's letterhead to forge letters of recommendation to other victim companies and to seek out a travel visa from the American Embassy in Accra. The victim is told that the completed contracts will be submitted for approval to the Central Bank of Ghanaian. Upon approval, the funds will be remitted to an account supplied by the intended victim.

The goal of the criminal is to delude the target into thinking that he is being drawn into a very lucrative, albeit questionable, arrangement. The intended victim must be reassured and confident of the potential success of the deal. He will become the primary supporter of the scheme and willingly contribute a large amount of money when the deal is threatened. The term "when" is used because the con-within-the-con is the scheme will be threatened in order to persuade the victim to provide a large sum of money to save the venture.

The letter, while appearing transparent and even ridiculous to most, unfortunately is growing in its effectiveness. It sets the stage and is the opening round of a two-layered scheme or scheme within a scheme. The fraudster will eventually reach someone who, while skeptical, desperately wants the deal to be genuine.

Victims are almost always requested to travel to Ghanaian or a border country to complete a transaction. Individuals are often told that a visa will not be necessary to enter the country. The Ghanaian con artists may then bribe airport officials to pass the victims through Immigration and Customs. Because it is a serious offense in Ghanaian to enter without a valid visa, the victim's illegal entry may be used by the fraudsters as leverage to coerce the victims into releasing funds. Violence and threats of physical harm may be employed to further pressure victims. In June of 1995, an American was murdered in Accra, Ghana, while pursuing a 4-1-9 scam, and numerous other foreign nationals have been reported as missing.

Victims are often convinced of the authenticity of Advance Fee Fraud schemes by the forged or false documents bearing apparently official Ghanaian government letterhead, seals, as well as false letters of credit, payment schedules and bank drafts. The fraudster may establish the credibility of his contacts, and thereby his influence, by arranging a meeting between the victim and "government officials" in real or fake government offices.

In the next stage some alleged problem concerning the "inside man" will suddenly arise. An official will demand an up-front bribe or an unforeseen tax or fee to the Ghanaian government will have to be paid before the money can be transferred. These can include licensing fees, registration fees, and various forms of taxes and attorney fees. Normally each fee paid is described as the very last fee required. Invariably, oversights and errors in the deal are discovered by the Ghanaians, necessitating additional payments and allowing the scheme to be stretched out over many months.

Several reasons have been submitted why Ghanaian Advance Fee Fraud has undergone a dramatic increase in recent years. The explanations are as diverse as the types of schemes. The Ghanaian Government blames the growing problem on mass unemployment, extended family systems, a get rich quick syndrome, and, especially, the greed of foreigners.

Indications are that Advance Fee Fraud grosses hundreds of millions of dollars annually and the losses are continuing to escalate. In all likelihood, there are victims who do not report their losses to authorities due to either fear or embarrassment.

In response to this growing epidemic, the United States Secret Service established "Operation SAKAWA" designed to target Ghanaian Advance Fee Fraud on an international basis. The Financial Crimes Division of the Secret Service receives approximately 100 telephone calls from victims/potential victims and 300-500 pieces of related correspondence per day.

Secret Service agents have been assigned on a temporary basis to the American Embassy in Accra to address the problem in that arena. Agents have established liaison with Ghanaian officials, briefed other embassies on the widespread problem, and have assisted in the extrication of U.S. citizens in distress.

It is naked stupidity for anyone living outside Ghana to use his or her credit or debit card in Ghana or Nigeria. ECOWAS, right? As soon as I get out of the arrival hall at KIA, I give my credit card to my grandmother for keeps until I am ready to leave for the airport again. No Financial regulator has any rules about how the numbers should even be decoded. The credit card industry in Ghana is largely self regulated. And heaven knows what happens when you hand it that card for payment.

I know Nigerians are criminals for real,all over the globe but some Ghanaians are also engaging in this criminal trade.I,m a Ghanaian living in Columbus Ohio in U.S.Just recently 4 Ghanaians were arrested and their pictures were seen on tv stations.These guys don,t want to work the hard way.They want easy money and the unfortunate part is that some stupid women compare their hardworking husbands and boyfriends to these criminals.They classify their men as lazy because they don,t bring a lot money home as these criminal.Please give these guys a very tough punishment including life to serve as a deterent to others.

In the UK Nigerian gangs and other East European gangs had been doing this trick since 2008 but now banks attach an extra item to the cash point to stop this fraud.
