He stole GHC14,000.00 and was find to a total of GHC3,600.00.
If this was correct, then it is rather an encouragement to pay off and be free,or is he going to refund the stolen money,Ghanaweb,check again please.

This guy should have been fined about the double of the amount he stole. That is the essence of penalty or punishment; it SHOULD serve as a deterrent that forestalls similar intentions in others.

On a very serious note, Ghana judges seriously lack intelligence. I can almost swear the majority aren't wise at all. Sometimes you tend to ask yourself how they came about with their diplomas. They have spiked crime in Ghana and it is very regrettable other state organs can't see this big deficiency.

We definitely have a problem. A fine of ghc3600 for a theft of ghc14000. How manage? The Legal Council needs to take a look at this and sanction as appropriate if the numbers are correct.

Where is probity and accountability in the "House of God" when only the leader ALONE can sign for money to be withdrawn. THIS IS YET ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF TOO MUCH (FINANCIAL) POWER BEING CONCENTRATED IN THE HANDS OF ONE "MAN OF GOD". If so-called men of God can single- handedly sign Church cheques(contributions from congregants)is it any wonder that many Church men in Ghana are so filthy rich?

Check books are supposed to be under lock and key and the culprit is not the Account Officer but a Protocol Officer.So ...

Does he doubles as the Accounts Officer ?
Again,people Steal not for the fun of it,but in need of the money in this case.
So,what was/is the reason for the Conviction of a fine of "Gh 3,600 or in default,three(3) years in prison",as against stealing about Gh 14,000 or 6000 Cedis.
Has Nii Ayi Smith refunded the money,agreed to do so,or the Judge was simply lenient with him.
Also,I vision administrative and Accounting lapses typical of Ghanaian one man Business /Church,which contributed to the easy withdrawal.(internal control and checks).
e.g. Why should Prophet Mensah be the sole signatory to the Bank Accounts of an organization he is the founder,if the Bank Accounts are not in his personal name.
One of the Accounting Conventions "The Entity Concept" in Accounting State that , the Owner or Founder of a Business is a Separate entity from the Business(in this case,if the Banks Accounts are in the name of the Church, and not Prophet Mensah).It is under this maxim that a legal action against the Owner Prophet Mensah,is considered his private affair,and had no legal binding on the Business/Church.
So founders,Owners,Proprietors or whatever should take advantage of the number of business training opportunities in the Country to update their knowledge.EMPRETEC etc etc.
