  I have been victim of theft cases before and fortunately, had the items recovered. However, the police never want to pursue the matter since they say "you've got your items. Why do you want to go to court??" This happens all the time. There is minimal downside for the criminal since he'll need to just pay his way out after being caught.
  
  I think these criminals should have gotten up to 2 years...but 6 months is a good start.
