Folks, according to Ghana law concerning who should be classified as a minor, I don't understand how the law allows a 16 year old to have sex but they cannot marry at 17.

If a 16 year old girl can legally agree to have sex with a man of any age, how then can you prevent her from getting married?

The 84 year old father might have committed a crime for forcing her 17 year old into force marriage but the crime is not marrying a minor because the age of consent in Ghana is 16 or is Ghana telling us it allows minors to have sex but cannot marry?

Sometimes some of these decisions irritate me. The man was fined for giving out his underage daughter to marrige. What about the one who married her and had carnal knowledge of her? Who is the GHs 600 for? Is it to repair the broken hymen of the girl through surgery or prayers? Make the punishments more stiffer to deter these animals. Someone spends this GHs 600 on hotel bills alone in a day or hours.

The only thing SCHEMER added was why the one who married the underage girl was not arrested and prosecuted too. If he did have sex with the minor it was as a result of he getting married to her- underage. What is your worry here? Grow up by thinking deep.

Journalist: You seem to scatter the essential facts aimlessly across the page: The fact that Mr. Gabo gave out his daughter into marriage; the fact that his daughter was 17 years old; and the fact that the legal marriage for girls is 18, should all be close together, probably in the same paragragh. By placing the 18-year legal marriage age far away to the end of the article, you make me wonder for a long time what the girl's father did wrong. Further, in the heading and in the first paragraph, you loudly announce Mr. Gado's age as 84; but there is nothing in your article to make his age relevant. Would anything have been different if Mr. Gado was 30, 40, or 50 years old? No!.

By the way nothing was said about the marriage.I hope it has been dissolved to enable the girl go back to school.
