I know someone who woke up one night to find a thief hiding in his compound from a mob who were chasing him. When the mob entered his compound, he ordered them out and warned them not to touch the thief because he was in his custody and he was handing him over to the police. One of the mob was demanding for instant justice and fiercely quarreling with the landlord. Finally when the police arrived and the suspect was brought out, the mob woman found out to her horror that the thief was her own nephew and she broke down in tears, apologizing to the landlord.

Whist I am in no way condoning the behavior of those two young men, I would like to draw our nation's attention to a few thought-provoking issues. Please kindly bear with me and ponder on my humble views. As I carefully read one of the comments posted on this platform, I could not help reading someone stating that thieves do not belong in our country. Yet our dear nation is littered with corrupt politicians, contractors and various individuals in private and public sectors who are literally pillaging the nation's coffers on daily basis. These corrupt white-collar criminals are usually ignorantly honored and celebrated by the very people they are stealing from and ultimately destroying their economic lives.These true robbers are often given front pews in our churches and highly respected in social circles. Yet when someone steals a loaf of bread or in this case a T.V. decoder, they are lynched to death. Really?, let us get our priorities right. No, no, no, my fellow countrymen I am not advocating doing same to say politicians.However, for the people of Berekum and elsewhere in Ghana I say the next you throw first stone think about what your local politicians are doing with money and resources meant to create jobs and improve your standard of living. As a resident of America and frequent visitor to my beloved country, my heart bleeds for the youth of our nation in particular, given the endemic culture of corruption. Here in America most will tell of countless Ghanaian and other African leaders educating their children in universities paying at least 40 thousand U.S. dollars a year per child. Some with 2 to 3 children. They steal the future of our youth and sadly set them up to butcher those who steal a finger of plaintain.A dirge too soon for the families of these young men. Ghana my beloved country will one I hope let justice be meted out through our law enforcement agencies and not through mob justice.
