The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has lashed out at a flood victim, calling him a "stupid man" and a "fool" after the resident appealed to him to prioritise drainage infrastructure over entertainment activities in the constituency.

The exchange followed devastating floods that hit parts of Ghana after hours of heavy rainfall on June 29, 2026, leaving several communities submerged and residents counting their losses.

Reacting to the resident's appeal in a Facebook post on the same day, A-Plus argued that while the man had every right to express his concerns, he could have done so respectfully without insulting him.

The Gomoa Central MP questioned whether he was expected to stop the rainfall himself.

"Stupid man!! You could make your statement without being stupid! You could seek help without being a fool! It is raining, so I should go to heaven and ask Nebuchadnezzar to stop the rain or what?" he asked.

A-Plus further argued that one of the biggest challenges authorities face in addressing flooding is the resistance they encounter whenever they attempt to remove structures obstructing waterways.

To support his point, he referenced a recent incident in Kumasi, where a woman was captured cursing the city's mayor after authorities demolished buildings situated on waterways.

According to the MP, residents often oppose such interventions but later blame public officials when flooding occurs.

"A woman in Kumasi was cursing the mayor of Kumasi for demolishing buildings in waterways. If I decide to do same, you these same people will curse my children and me. Now that water has entered your gbemi, you are calling onya ka soomli and instead of making sense, you are talking nonsense. Opro!," he said.

The MP went on to criticise what he described as a culture of entitlement among some Ghanaians, saying many citizens had been "pampered for far too long."

He also made another controversial remark, suggesting the floodwaters had not affected the resident enough.

"Many of you Ghanaians have been pampered for far too long. Me I no dey fear you. The water no enter you well. Like e for carry you enter the yenku forest!"

A-Plus further insisted that he would not allow anyone to intimidate or blackmail him with votes, adding that while he was willing to assist constituents in times of need, he would not tolerate what he considered disrespect.

"I keep telling you guys, I'm not your regular MP. I'm not one of the MPs you can blackmail with votes. You can reach out to me for help, even though I'm not NADMO. But if you want to be stupid, I will insult you, your mother, your father father father! Kwasea, come and see my area in Accra!," he added.

The remarks were in response to a video in which a resident of Gomoa Pomadze, whose home had been affected by the floods, appealed to the MP to provide support for victims and pay greater attention to drainage infrastructure in the constituency.

The resident acknowledged A-Plus' entertainment-related activities in the constituency but urged him to shift more focus towards long-term solutions to flooding.

"We are pleading with A-Plus, the MP for Gomoa Central, to come to our aid and help us address this situation. He should do something for us. We believe it’s time to put entertainment aside and focus on improving the drainage infrastructure," the resident said.
