Accused person pleads with court for leniency

Cape Coast, July 14, GNA- Kwasi Robert, a 23-year-old driver's mate at Yamoransa who was on remand for seven months for stealing, on Monday pleaded with a Magistrate's court at Cape Coast to deal leniently with him because he had "learnt his lesson."

Robert, who was first arraigned in January and pleaded not guilty, changed his plea to guilty when he appeared before the court on Monday. The court, presided over by Mr Peter Asare-Duah sentenced him to a year's imprisonment effective from the day he was remanded.


The case for the prosecution was that on the night of November 23, last year, Robert together with three others, two of who are at large, and the other deceased, broke into the premises of the health post at Kissi in the Central Region and stole a motorbike.

They proceeded to ride it to Accra but ran short of fuel and while they were waiting the inhabitants of the village suspected they were thieves arrested Robert while the others bolted.
