Actor Tim Curry dies at 80

Legendary actor Tim Curry, best known for his role as Dr Frank-N-Furter in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died at the age of 80.

Curry died late Tuesday night, August 25, 2026, at his home in Los Angeles, according to a report by tmz.com on Wednesday, August 26.

Police responded to his residence at about 11:23 p.m. following a report of a death investigation.

The Los Angeles Fire Department had earlier been called to the home over a medical emergency, and Curry was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said no foul play was suspected.

Curry rose to fame after starring as the flamboyant Dr Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a 1975 musical horror comedy that initially received little critical attention but later developed a huge cult following through midnight screenings.

He became known to a wider television audience in 1990 after portraying the terrifying Pennywise the Clown in the television adaptation of Stephen King's It.

His other film credits included Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Annie, Clue, The Hunt for Red October, Muppet Treasure Island, Addams Family Reunion and Scary Movie 2.

Curry began his entertainment career in the late 1960s and went on to build a career spanning more than five decades across film, television and theatre.

He received three Tony Award nominations for his work on Broadway and an Emmy nomination during his career.

His career was affected by a major stroke in 2012, which required brain surgery and left him with significant mobility challenges.

In 2025, while promoting his memoir Vagabond, Curry disclosed that he was still unable to walk.

Despite his health challenges, he remained a respected figure in the entertainment industry and continued to work in acting and voice roles.

Curry's performances, particularly his portrayal of Dr Frank-N-Furter and Pennywise, cemented his status as one of the most recognisable actors of his generation.
