Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has responded to netizens urging him to join the #StopGalamseyNow protest, which aims to combat illegal mining activities in the country.

In a fiery Twitter post on September 26, 2024, Shatta Wale expressed his frustration and dismissed the calls for his participation.

He criticised the approach of the protesters, accusing them of engaging in frivolous activities.

"You people don't know how to stop problems. You go there to play music and swim and do nonsense," he stated.

"Let people die! If you are going anywhere, go and fight! And stop the nonsense talking that you people are talking," Shatta Wale added.

He further questioned the influence of the music industry in such matters and argued that regardless of which government is in power, the situation would remain unchanged.

"Do you think the people you’re playing with are small people? Any government that comes into power will do you the same thing," he added.

His comments come amid calls for various celebrity voices to join the #StopGalamseyNow campaign on social media which is demanding urgent action be taken to curb the issue of the galamsey menace, which has led to the destruction of farmlands across major parts of the country.

On Sunday, September 22, 2024, some Democracy Hub protestors, including socialite Ama Governor and model Glenn Samm, were arrested on the second day of a three-day protest at the 37 Military Roundabout in Accra.

Meanwhile, an Accra Circuit Court has remanded the protesters.

They have been slapped with five charges including conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct, breach of public peace, and assault on public officers.
