Controversial hiplife artiste, Barima Sidney has in an exclusive interview with Flex Newspaper revealed the creation of his political movement called Mutashi ahead of the 2016 General Election.

He has explained that Mutashi is a term in the Hausa language which means ”Lets Arise ‘ and it is a political movement comprising of Ghanaian youth. Created in 2016, the movement seeks to champion political awareness among the youth, encourage them to seek accountability from political leaders and actively participate in the political space. Through music recordings, social media and rallies, Mutashi advocates for the youth to embrace a new type of thinking that will ensure social change in Ghana” , Barima Sidney intimated.

When asked what motivated him to form The Mutashi Movement, this is what Barima Sidney had to say:

”I got the motivation from our fellow youth in Mozambique who stood against the price hikes of fuel, water and bread which led to a series of street demonstrations which caused the government to revise its notes in September 2011. In Tunisia, the youth stood against corruption, unemployment and the lack of freedom of speech in early 2011 through a lot of street riots and finally some of these things were resolved. Also in June 2011, the youth of Senegal rallied around the movement Y’en amarre, meaning ”Enough is enough ” to abolish a constitutional amendment which would have seen Abdoulai Wade contest for a third term in office”

According to Barima Sidney, the Mutashi Movement has members from all walks of life adding that he is not really concerned the number of members but rather the quality of people.

As at now, even though the movement is yet to be launched, it has what it terms as “cell units” in the various neighborhoods such as like Nima, Ashaiman, North kaneshie, Fadama, Bubuashie, Chorkor etc and primarily depends on contributions from fellow youths who believe in the vision of the Movement as its source of finance.
