Ensemble Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization that focuses on better living for the female gender, will be launched at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra on Saturday, May 7, with a fashion show.
The show, which will feature the works of young and dynamic designers such as Wendy L’artisan, Naa Kwale, Kabda and Sika Dua, is expected to expose their recent collections, which have been hailed by critics and fashion observers alike.
All participating designers have in recent years created waves in the industry with evocative and innovative works that have received reviews in local magazines and journals in Ghana, several African countries and other parts of the world.
A movie on Cervical Cancer would be screened as part of the launch to create the much needed awareness on this health canker, which has in recent years assumed disturbing proportions in Ghana and other countries in the West African sub region.
Indeed, more than 500,000 women worldwide are diagnosed each year with this disease and nearly half of these die from it. Before the invention of the Pap smear procedure in 1940, cervical cancer was the most deadly form of cancer for women in the United States.
Since then, regular preventive screenings have become common and the incidence of cervical cancer has dropped in the USA by over 75 percent. Still, between 10,000 and 13,000 American women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year, and one third of those women eventually succumb to it.
Many of these deaths could be prevented if the Pap Smear tests were accessible to all women. For those who lack resources, such as money, health insurance, or access to medical care, it is a huge problem to have regular screenings. In developing nations, the regular gynecological screening is an even more serious problem that leads to a majority of the world’s cases of cervical cancer.
Ensemble Foundation was set up owing to an ardent desire to improve the lives of our women both in rural and urban areas, and this desire has precipitated its formation. To have a successful women empowerment advocacy program, it is poised to ensure that our women are healthy and are able to live their lives to the fullest and not ridden in incapacitation, while being empowered.
This is the main reason why Ensemble Foundation has purposed to join the fight against cervical cancer in women, which according to statistics is the second most malignant cancer in the world and the third most common in women.
First Royale Events is handling the fashion show for the night. The event company is also the franchise holder for Top Model of the World, Miss Model of the World, Miss Tourism Queen World, Miss Earth International, Miss Intercontinental, Miss Leisure and Manhunt International.
