Bullet says Akhan’s move abroad pushed him into signing artistes
The Chief Executive Officer of RuffTown Records, Ricky Nana Agyeman, popularly known as Bullet, has asserted that he only began signing artistes because of the frustration he experienced with his former group mate, Akhan, of the now-defunct music group Ruff N Smooth.
In an interview on Kumasi-based Angel FM, the artiste manager explained that although he started signing artistes out of frustration with “his brother,” he had always made Akhan aware of his dream of nurturing and bringing other artistes to the limelight.
According to Bullet, he became even more motivated to sign artistes when he realised that his partner, Akhan, had separated himself and was living abroad.
“I started signing artistes to my record label out of the frustration I had with my friend, Akhan. However, even when we were still the Ruff N Smooth group, I always told him I wanted to produce talents. I’ve always had young guys around me because it was my dream to help bring artistes up. But I became more motivated to sign artistes when I realised that Akan, my partner, had separated himself and was living abroad,” he said.

When asked whether his decision to venture into his own projects meant he was responsible for the split of Ruff N Smooth, Bullet stated that it was rather Akhan who suggested that they emulate music duo R2Bees by pursuing solo projects while still maintaining the group.
“I wouldn’t say I caused the group to split because he was the one who brought the idea that we should be like R2Bees, where both members of the group can go and do solo projects. But I told him no because R2Bees started as a movement that included Criss Waddle, D Cryme and others back in the day,” he stated.
The RuffTown Records boss further disclosed that he told Akhan he believed he would not return to the group if he became successful as a solo artiste.
“So I told him that if he went solo and became successful, I knew he wouldn’t want to come back again. I said he should just man up and admit that, at the point we had gotten to, he wanted to do something else, instead of trying to be smart by saying we should do solo projects before coming back together as a group again,” he added.
Ruff N Smooth, made up of Clement Baffour, known in showbiz as Akhan, and Ricky Nana Agyeman (Bullet), shot to fame in 2009 with their debut hit song, Swagger.
Some of their well-known songs include Beautiful, Sex Machine, Naija Baby, Azingele and Dance for Me.
