Ghanaian Designer Shows Class

Ghanaian fashion designer Felix Anaman made his country proud during the BK Fashion Week held at Brooklyn New York from September 29 to October 2, 2011.

His designs gave an excellent impression of what African fashion designers can do with their local textile and his works got a standing ovation when models showcased them at the event.

The young entrepreneur is Chief Executive of Felix Anaman Clothing and studied at Vogue Style School of Fashion and Design. He is also an Executive Council Member and Youth Representative of Totally Youth, a Non Governmental Agency (NGO) based in Ghana and has spent the biggest part of his life in the fashion arena.

“I have worked on my own fashion label as well as with other partners in his field of work. I have also sponsored a variety of beauty pageants in Ghana such as Miss Ghana 2002 (Central Region’s representative), Mr. and Miss Kiddafest 2003, Miss Ghana 2005 Southern Zone qualifiers, Miss Legon 2006, Face of Legon 2007 both projects of the University of Ghana, Central University College’s Miss Obaasima 2007, the first edition of Mac Tontoh and the Kids – 2005 and Miss ECOWAS Ghana 2010,” he explained.

The BK Fashion Week provides a platform for some ground-breaking design talent, including: Edwing DAngelo (USA), Jay Wilson and Gavin Douglas, Das Komitee (Germany), Terri Steven (Project Runway contestant) alongside Brooklyn’s own Joan Vaccianna, Alisha Trimble, Samyo Lenko and Denisha White in addition to student designers from Maxwell Williams High School.

BK Fashion Week has also been honored and excited to showcase notable designers Loris Doran and Nana Boateng, who have given much inspiration to emerging designers. NEWS-ONE reproduces a few of the designs Felix Anaman showcased at the show.
