Ghanaian Chef, Ebenezer Smith, also known as Chef Smith, has revealed that he created his own fake Guinness World Record certificate.

In an exclusive interview on GHOne TV with Serwaa Amihere, Chef Smith disclosed that he picked one of the certificates posted online by Guinness World Records, edited it, and put his details on it.

This was after he was asked how he forged the certificate.

"They have a lot of certificates on their pages. Like I said, I have been following Guinness World Records for a long time; they have a lot of certificates. So I just picked one of the certificates and edited the details to my name, and that was it," he explained.

He said his assistant chef did not know about his criminal act.

On July 2, 2024, Chef Smith convened a press briefing at La Palm Beach Hotel to declare his purported achievement of setting the longest individual cooking marathon record by cooking for 820 hours.

Despite assertions from Chef Smith’s manager, Benny, that they received a confirmation email from GWR, Guinness World Records (GWR) stated that they have no record of any application or attempt from the Ghanaian chef.

Amidst public condemnation, Chef Smith faced backlash after it was revealed that the certificate might not be genuine.

"No, it is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate," the email from Madalyn Biefield, Public Relations Manager of Guinness World Records, disclosed.
