Veteran Ghanaian musician, Nana Acheampong has stated emphatically that he would never compose a campaign song for any political party.
He said this on 'Atuu' with Abeiku Santana in response to a question about whether he would consider a path similar to that of his former Lumba Brothers partner, Daddy Lumba, who is known for the hit 'Nana Y3 Winner' in support of the NPP.
Nana Acheampong replied, saying, "He [Lumba] is his own person, and I am my own person. I haven't, and honestly, I don't want to go in that direction."
He explained that his decision stems from a wish to remain neutral and avoid any potential backlash from supporters of rival political parties that could arise from endorsing one party over another through his music.
"I don't want to show interest in that side or involve myself in politics. I can do it, but I want to avoid a situation where I do a song for one party, and supporters of the opposing party suddenly have a problem with me. That is why I made such a decision," he said.
Nana Acheampong's comments come as the country gears up for the 2024 general elections in December.
While some celebrities have endorsed one political party or another, others have steered clear of any political discourse to avoid conflict and protect their brand.
