Kwame Obeng Asare, popularly known as A Plus, the independent Member of Parliament-elect for the Gomoa Central constituency, has made it clear that his primary focus is the development of his constituency, not political affiliations.

Months ago, A Plus announced his decision to contest the Gomoa Central seat as an independent candidate despite facing criticism.

The political activist and social commentator expressed confidence in his ability to represent his constituency, highlighting the work he had already done for the people of Gomoa Central.

In a surprising turn of events, A Plus secured 13,491 votes, defeating the incumbent MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who received 10,541 votes.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Kwame Deen Yawson, garnered 9,116 votes.

Speaking on GHOne TV with Lily Mohammed, A Plus welcomed the NDC’s achievement of securing a majority in Parliament, viewing it as an opportunity to ensure proper checks and balances.

However, he expressed concerns about the new majority potentially repeating the mistakes of the previous NPP government.

A Plus emphasised his willingness to collaborate with the NDC, provided their agenda aligns with the needs of Gomoa Central.

He stated, “The NDC has to cast the majority in Parliament, and I’m very happy they have that. When you have the majority, the tendency to do exactly what the NPP did is high. Even though they have the majority, it doesn’t change how I think; they can’t silence me in any way”.

He further affirmed, “I am not going to make hasty decisions. All I am interested in is developing Gomoa, and I have to understand why I caucus with anybody. If it will benefit Gomoa, why not? I have to put my cards on the table, he stated. If they tell me what I want to hear, we will work hand in hand,” he affirmed
