Award-winning Ghanaian Disc Jockey and media personality, DJ Switch, has stated that she remains unfazed by online backlash and insults, insisting that no amount of criticism will stop her from speaking against the sexualization and romanticisation of children.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Patience Adu, the young entertainer said she has grown accustomed to hateful comments directed at her, but draws the line when it comes to issues affecting children.

“I’ve kind of gotten used to them. They don’t faze me anymore, honestly,” she said, recalling how she recently refused to block people who insulted and body-shamed her during a live session because their comments no longer affect her.

DJ Switch explained that the backlash intensified after she publicly condemned the sexualization of children, with some critics telling her she was “just a child” and shouldn’t speak when adults are speaking.

According to her, she finds it disturbing that some people defend the sexualization and romanticisation of children as part of Ghanaian culture, stressing that she cannot represent Ghana proudly while accepting such behaviour as normal.

“It’s quite distasteful. It’s disgusting. That’s the part I push back on,” she stated.

She further noted that in Ghana, young people who confidently speak up or advocate for causes are often labelled disrespectful simply because of their age.

Quoting the Akan proverb, “A child who washes their hands eats with elders,” DJ Switch said she remains focused on advocating for the protection of children rather than responding to personal attacks.

“As for the hate, they’ve done it so much that it doesn’t bother us anymore. Let’s focus on the advocacy. Let’s advocate for the young children,” she said.
