'I will vote against John Mahama if he debates Bawumia' – Bridget Otoo

Media personality Bridget Otoo has publicly stated that she will not vote for former President John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming December 7 general elections if he agrees to debate the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to Bridget Otoo, Dr. Bawumia does not deserve the attention and publicity he would receive if he were allowed to debate John Dramani Mahama.

She made this known in a post shared on X formerly known as Twitter on July 11, 2024.

“I will vote against John Mahama if he debates Bawumia! We are not giving a platform to that chronic, unrepentant, untruthful person,” parts of her tweet read.

Bridget Otoo suggested that if the NPP wants a debate for their flagbearer, they should organize one between him and flagbearers from other parties, but not the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“They can organize a debate for other candidates with him!,” Otoo suggested.

She also pointed out that the incumbent president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, did not participate in a presidential debate when he was running but still managed to become president.

“Nana Addo stayed away from debates and he did just fine!!!,” the broadcast journalist said.

The first-ever presidential debate was organized in the year 2000 by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA). Since then, presidential debates have become a part of the electoral process in Ghana during every presidential election.

The purpose of the debates is to allow presidential aspirants to communicate their policy intentions to voters and have the feasibility of their manifestos questioned.
