Jon Benjamin, former British High Commissioner to Ghana has condemned the two dancehall artistes at the center of a brawl that marred the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards ceremony over the weekend.

The outspoken diplomat made his sentiments known in a response to a tweet on social media ABC News Ghana observed.

He was particularly unhappy with Stonebwoy who pulled out a gun in the heat of the moment reportedly in self defense. The melee occurred after Shatta Wale and his followers stormed the stage while Stonebwoy was receiving his Award for the Reggae/ Dance hall artiste for the year.

Breaking his silence on the matter, John Benjamin asserted, “I’m not in favour of causing a fracas. I’m very much more not in favour of pulling a gun.”

Shatta Wale and a host of his ‘Militants’ thronged the stage just as Stonebwoy was about to deliver his acceptance speech for the award resulting in the clash of the two camps.

It’s unclear what Shatta Wale’s intentions were considering the fact that the two, over the years, have hardly seen eye to eye, but according to the ‘I know my level’ hitmaker, he went on stage to solidarise with his colleague, Stonebwoy.

In the course of the confusion and flying punches on stage, Stonebwoy was seen drawing a gun despite resistance from several people around him.

Stonebwoy subsequently rendered an apology for his reaction saying he was provoked by Shatta Wale.

ABC News Ghana can report that the event had to be suspended for close to 30 minutes for calm to be restored in the auditorium and the stage cleared.
