Knights of Marshal launch essay competition for JSS students

Koforidua, May 9, GNA - The Koforidua branch of the Knights and Ladies of Marshal, a Catholic charitable order, has launched an essay competition for pupils in public Primary Six and Junior Secondary School (JSS) Two in the New Juaben municipality.

The competition offers 800,000 cedis as the first prize, 400,000 cedis for the second and 300,000 cedis for the third prize. Launching the competition at the St George's Cathedral, Koforidua on Sunday, Mr S. Agyenim Boateng, an executive member of the Order, explained that the competition, which would be an annual affair, was the contribution of the Order to help improve the standard of the pupils academically, morally and spiritually.

The Order also presented some food items worth three million cedis to the Handmaid of the Divine Redeemer Convent at Koforidua. Presenting the items the Grand Knight of the Order, Mr Isaac Somuah Adusei, said the gesture formed part of the celebration of this year's Marshallan's Day celebrations which fell on May 3. The Rev. Sister Gifty Amoah Godwyl, Director of the Convent who received the donation, thanked the Order and said it made a similar presentation last year and expressed the hope tha5t benevolent organizations and individuals would assist the Convent.
