Let us protect Ghana's cultural heritage - Baffour Gyekye

Kumasi, Sept.16, GNA - Baffour Asuming Gyekye, Asonomasohene on Thursday said the high level of indiscipline and immorality in society was due to the neglect of traditionally approved social norms, values and blind copying of foreign culture by the youth.

He therefore, called on Ghanaians to guard and protect the rich cultural heritage bequeathed to the country by its forefathers. Baffour Gyekye, 46, newly installed chief of Asonomaso in the Kwabre District made the call when speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, after swearing the oath of allegiance to Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace.

He was known in private life as Mr Baffour Gyekye, Manager of Yeji Goil Filling station and a farmer. Baffour Gyekye succeeded Nana Professor Abayie Boateng, who died early this year.

He pledged to rekindle the Kente weaving industry in the town to improve the living standards of the people and attract tourists to the town. Baffour Gyekye advised parents to give priority attention to the education of their children and pledged to institute scholarships scheme to assist needy but brilliant pupils in the town. He called for cooperation from the people to speed up the development of the town.
