Over the past 2 years, Ghanaian model Nunana Awoonor has been modelling professionally in America and even though she is just 22 years of age, Nunu as she is fondly called by her friends and family says for her, modelling is more like a hobby and it is something she loves doing even though deep down in her heart she knows it is a job.

“For me, I love modelling and I see it more as a hobby rather than a Job. Each shoot has a variety of exciting things, which makes each day a new experience,” says Nunu.

Currently living in New Jersey, Nunu is signed under MMG NY and has travelled across America working with some top international brands such as Makeup forever, DEX cosmetics, Nan Romano’s bridal boutique, Ladies outfitters, Designs by U, Aya Morrison, DONDO Magazine, Sade Glamour, Nefer SisStars, Mariuzio, Baka Creations, and so many other amazing brands. And though she likes all kinds of modelling, she says, “I do Editorial, Fashion, Commercial, Sports, Glamour, Beauty and Lingerie shoots very well.”

For Nunu, the competition in the industry is intense and it challenges all models to give a 110% in all their shoots and runway gigs. In fact, she believes that a competitive industry will not only demand more from a model but will also allow you to challenge yourself. “I love competition and I love challenging myself,” she says. “I consider myself a go getter; always pushing for what I want, and never really taking no for an answer.”

Presently, Nunu is enjoying building her modelling portfolio and loves the experience of getting to meet new people. “When I am not modelling or studying, I love travelling, meeting new people and basically learning more about how to become a better model,” Nunu says.

This is truly a great time to be modelling because with the easy access to social media, models can start conversations with other models and professionals across the world, creating more opportunities for business and expanding their contacts even further… something that wouldn’t have been possible 2 decades ago.

Nunu says the flip side of the modelling is that even though most times you are initially judged on your appearance, it really is not always about your looks but more about if you have that X-Factor look. “To be a top model you need to be different,” says Nunu.

“I am different in many ways. I am also unique, sometimes, even daring.” Our generation of models are brave, adventurous and are opening new frontiers for themselves. They are business minded and they understand that modelling is not only a beautiful business, but is also a profitable and demanding business.

Nunu is one Ghanaian model who wants to model, who enjoys it and is looking forward to more opportunities.
