Renowned music producer, Appiah Dankwah, known in showbiz circles as Appietus disagrees with concerns by some stakeholders that the current crop of songs has no content and as such spells doom to the already ailing music industry.

According to Appietus, it will be extremely boring should all songs convey messages. In as much as people can be educated and inspired through music, Appietus believes it should be a source of unlimited entertainment.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix, Appietus cited ‘Gangnam Style’, a hit song by a South Korean as one of the songs he enjoyed though it had no message of a sort.

“Rappers usually talk about what they see. They talk about themselves. But if music should convey a message, probably, it will be boring. Some have to be fun. PSY did ‘Gangnam Style’. I didn’t really get anything from that song but it’s popping. Not everybody can make a song in a specific direction. Sometimes, you need to have fun. We should have dynamics,” he said.

The comment comes on the heels of a statement by 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year, EL which suggested that rappers are producing empty songs.

EL in an interview on 3FM indicated that most rappers are now concerned about commercialization to the detriment of good content.

“It’s become so much more about commercialization of the music and it’s lost a lot of its soul regrettably… You have rap artistes these days without mentioning names who are not talking about anything but just use beats and that is not the way to go,” he said.
