OPINION: Davido’s ‘Aye’ video a lesson to GH artistes?

Ever since Nigerian entertainer Davido burst onto the music scene, he has not failed to offer stimulating music, be it ‘Skelewu’,‘Gobe’ or ‘Aye’.

But Davido’s latest work ‘Aye’ certainly has cemented his stature as a formidable artiste without doubts. Aside the music that can be said to be Hiplife, it is the concept of the video and its delivery that I salute beyond anything else.

The quality displayed shows that African costumes and practices can be portrayed tastefully without shame. Set on a cassava farm and devoid of flashy cars, skimpily clad ladies shaking bums and exotic buildings, this video holds its own against any by way of content and quality.

Davido’s Aye video should be a lesson to Ghanaian counterparts such as 4X4, Sarkodie and R2Bees. I reckon R2Bees lost a fine opportunity to execute similar Afro centered concept with the ‘Odo’ track.
