GHANA’S AWARD winning Gospel musician, Mrs. Mercy Twum-Ampofo, aka Ohemaa Mercy, has been nominated for this year’s Annual Africa Gospel Music Awards scheduled to take place on July 10, 2010, at the Zanzibar Banqueting Suite, Sydenham, London.

Ohemaa’s song, ‘Edin Jesus’, which has become a favourite of Gospel music lovers in Ghana and beyond, has been nominated for the Best Non UK Gospel Song category.

Danny Nettey and Allen and Da New Wave, have also been nominated for Best Non UK Based Artiste/Group and Gospel Choir/Band of the Year respectively.

Based on her outstanding performance last year, Ohemaa Mercy was adjudged Gospel Artiste of the year at this year’s MTN Ghana Music Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre on April 10.

The Gospel artiste, who has been on the music scene for the past 16 years, sees Gospel music as an instrument of God used to win souls for His kingdom.

The awards, organized by Ultimate Praise Africa (UPA), will be used to help promote African gospel music, and proceeds will be used to build decent homes for orphans.

It will also be used to recognize hidden musical talents in order to give them the needed exposure and provide the opportunity for them to learn more about the rich musical heritage of Africa.

Founded in 2008, UPA serves as the face and voice of the Afro Gospel/Christian music community in UK and is dedicated to exposing, promoting and celebrating the gospel through Afro-fusion music of all styles.

The UPA community consists of more than 2,500 members including agents, artistes, church leaders, managers, promoters, radio personnel, record company executives, retailers, songwriters and other industry visionaries.
