Ghanaian music guru and Hitz FM director, Mark Okraku Mantey, has criticized highlife artiste King Promise for failing to give patrons of the 20th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards remarkable stagecraft.

According to the CEO of Slip Entertainment, King Promise’ failure to rehearse as a skilled artiste led him miming on the VGMA stage.

Speaking to Andy Dosty on “Day Break Hitz” Okraku Mantey said “This year Berla Mundi was on top, I can say she was the driver of the night, you see Kwame was more like garnishing. The event was good to sort of apart from King Promise, you hear the lead and then he is harmonizing or singing a higher octave. I think that for 20 years of Ghana music we should leave pass this if you cannot perform live”.

King Promise appears to attract a lot of condemnation from entertainment experts and social media users particularly with his way of dressing. He was trolled at last year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for going home ‘trophyless’ after getting many nominations.

Regardless of him not winning an award on the night, Twitter users shamelessly ridiculed the brilliant singer for wearing gigantic Balenciaga shoes to the event.

Despite the despair Ghanaians brought on him last year, King Promise born Gregory Promise Bortey Newman the ‘King of big shoes’ confidently wore another big shoe with a broad base to trigger another frenzy on social media.

The 20th anniversary of Ghana music award which was supposed to be a delightful somewhat twisted pandemonium after Stonebwoy was declared the winner of the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year category during the 2019 VGMA.

His arch competitor Shatta Wale and his Shatta Movement fans rushed on stage unwelcomed which led to a disagreement temporarily halting the hitherto an exciting event to celebrate Ghanaian musicians.

In the process, Stonebwoy pulled a gun on stage in self-defense, his action forced the Ghana police to arrest him and Shatta the next day and had to be lockup for a day.

The two top artistes has since been handed an indefinite ban by the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards organizers and also been stripped off all awards that they won at the 20th edition of the VGMA on May 18 2019 but the “Gringo” hit singer tweeted earlier that day “Upon sober reflections of events in recent times and having made broader consultations, I wish to announce that I will not be part of the Ghana Music Awards scheme going forward.

"God bless!,” the Gringo hitmaker posted on Facebook on Thursday, 23 May 2019 along with a picture of his bloody palm, suggesting he had made a blood oath.

Late dancehall artiste, Ebony reigns, is still reigning as the Artiste of the Year in 2019.
