Christmas came early for Ghana’s party people last weekend as Accra bustled with several pre-Christmas parties and events.
Friday night packed in a lot of parties as people trouped into nightclubs to drink up and dance off. Peer Pressure and Akwaaba UK pulled off the ‘Champagne Campaign’ at Tantra Nightclub to celebrate all the successes throughout the year, and to toast for new success in the coming year. With drinks flowing and mixes from DJ Kwame Swift, Eddy Blay , D-Black, Kwaku-t, Radical D, Reggie Rockstone, Mos Camp, DJ Armani and the specialist crew, almost nothing could go wrong. Sparkx Magazine also hosted the ‘Xmas Jump-off party with the Queens’ in Heaven Nightclub. It was a party for all the reigning beauty queens of Ghana and OBE TV presenter at large, Ama K was the host. It was a night of R&B/ hip hop/ funk/ house & garage/ bashment/ club classics/ hiplife/ mixes from the likes of Giles Bossman.
On Saturday, Accra got her laugh on at the National Theatre when Charter House again assembled some of the funniest comedians in Africa on the ‘Night of 1007 laughs and Music. On the bill were M-net Stand Up Zambia Winner, Bob Nkosha, and the usual cast from Nigeria including Gbenga Adeyinka I, Mandy and AY. What better way do end the year than with a stress-free night of rib-cracking humour? Performing alongside the comedians were the ever- effervescent Praye, and Stars of the Future winners Adina Ndamnse and Irene Logan.
The fun continued on Sunday with the 4syte TV Music Video Awards nomination party at the Klimax Bay, Labadi Beach. This explosive beach party pulled together the likes of R2bees, Asem, Richie and several others to perform for an anxious and jubilant crowd of music lovers. This was to set the tone for the award finale slated for the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday 26. Don’t forget there will be an after party at Aphrodisiac Nite Klub!
MTN crowned the pre-xmas weekend with a night of nine lessons and carols featuring performances by the Winneba Youth Choir, Kweku Gyasi, Kwaw Kesse, Irene Logan and Samini. Nothing says Christmas is here more than seeing Kwaw Kesse in Santa robes, rapping over chorals from the Winneba Youth Choir. Irene Logan showed her vocal dexterity with her wonderful renditions and her first ever public performance with her mum. If this was just the weekend before Christmas then what would the Christmas holidays proper be like?
