Media personality Serwaa Amihere has expressed concerns about the disappointing performances of the national football team Black Stars in recent times, particularly in the ongoing 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
She has identified that during John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration, the Black Stars were a delight to watch, with players displaying passion and commitment.
Serwaa highlighted how players like Asamoah Gyan, Michael Essien, and Stephen Appiah dazzled on the field, leading to the team's qualifications for the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and their appearances in the AFCON finals.
The GhOne TV presenter lamented that the current squad is struggling to find their form and has been losing to less competitive teams.
“The Black Stars under President Kufuor, and I remember because there was a blackout in the whole of Ghana that day. The Black Stars played well but didn’t win cups, but we could see Stephen Appiah, Essien, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Asamoah Gyan, and that goalkeeper, the one who did the Kalyppo advert, playing well.
“Right now, when the Black Stars play, everyone is expecting them to lose, and some don’t even watch but go on with their daily activities. What happened? Are our players not good, or is the management not doing its job? Also, why is Kwasi Appiah doing well with another country when Ghanaians said he wasn’t good for the Black Stars?” she wrote on X on October 17, 2024.
Serwaa’s comments followed the Black Stars' disappointing 2-0 loss to Sudan in the return leg of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in Libya.
After four matches, Ghana sits third in Group F with two points, while Sudan is in second place with seven points and Angola leads with twelve points.
The Black Stars will travel to face Angola next and will play their final match against Niger in Ghana in November 2024.

Growing up, I didn't hear much about Black Stars except always people talking about Abedi but I started following when we qualified for the World Cup. The one under President Kufuor and I remember because there was light off in the whole Ghana that day.
