Reggae Artiste, Blakk Rasta has stated that reggae musicians are very prayerful people who do not pull guns or carry guns during shows due to one rivalry or another.

He said reggae artistes are spiritual people who do not engage in useless rivalry as compared to dancehall artistes saying musical shows are not war zones.

The Broadcast Journalist with Zylofon FM said he will never play dancehall music when on air because it promotes sex and violence, a decision most of the dancehall artistes hate.

According to him, there is no way a reggae artiste will pull a gun because of a comment from another artiste which didn’t go down well with him/her.

He attributed the carrying of guns by dancehall artistes to shows to the emerging of camps/movements in the music scene where each camps are always on each other’s throats.

Blakk Rasta recalled that Highlife musician Kojo Antwi was the biggest artiste when he started his musical career but there was no ‘kojonation’ back then and that they were all doing their music in peace.

He called for the separation of reggae/dancehall artiste categories created by organisers of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) arguing that each category should be on its own.

‘Reggae artistes don’t pull guns, we don’t shoot each other, we are conscious, prayerful, spiritual people, dancehall promotes sex and violence that is why I don’t play dancehall music on my shows. I don’t understand the dancehall they are doing, most of the artistes hate me because of my stance. Reggae is different from dancehall, dancehall came out of reggae. Left to me alone, Reggae category should stand alone as it used to be in the past,’ he suggested in a video sighted by MynewsGh.com.

He blamed Charterhouse for thinking more about the business part of music more than the future aspect.

‘They have taken traditional category out, so which category will Wiyala, Ayesoba, Agbaga group fit. Look at the categories well and separate reggae category from dancehall category,’ he stated.
