Ghanaian dancehall artiste Samini has just launched the “Samini Light A Million Lives” project yesterday July 15, at Dancestardom in Accra as part of his 10 years in music.
As part of the “Samini Light A Million Lives” musician will distribute one million pieces of solar powered lanterns in deprived communities in rural areas across the northern part of the country where he hails from.
Samini Light A Million Lives, is a very ambitious project to distribute One Million solar lanterns across the length and breadth of Ghana.
Speaking at the launch Samini stated that it is very important to take social responsibility to the next level where it becomes social investment. As a kid, I had always fancied the idea of using the sunlight to generate light so it is this childhood dream that has led to this project so many years after.
He called on cooperate bodies, the media and government to support this project to hit his target of distributing 1 billion free solar lanterns across the whole of Africa.

I have also come to the full understanding of teaching a person how to fish rather than giving them fish always! With this background, I have liaised with some partners to establish a solar assembling plant in Ghana so that all the One Million solar lanterns would be assembled right here in Ghana. I want to be able to create some employment at the same time give people the chance to learn to become solar technicians so they can service all the lanterns in case they become faulty.
In order to achieve this dream, I researched and consulted and found very suitable partners for this venture. The people you see with me here are from Light a Million Lives Foundation and Ecotech Green Limited. You would be hearing from them soon about the roles they are playing in this project.
All said and done, I believe my biggest allies for this project is the media and my fans. I know and trust I would get all the support to make this project a really big success just as we have done with the music.
This project would also require the support of corporate Ghana and all donor agencies. I will like to use this opportunity to inform Corporate Ghana, Donor agencies and Individuals that I will be knocking on their doors very soon for their support for this very noble cause. I want to assure all stakeholders and donors of this project that everyone who contributes to the success of this project (Samini Light a Million Lives) would benefit immensely from all the activities lined up for the execution of this project.
Nevertheless, all work and no play makes Samini a dull guy so we would be having some concerts around the country and a really huge concert to crown the whole project and we might even have some artiste from other countries joining in the party.
