Shea Butter is a natural body cream used mostly by women in sub-Saharan Africa. In Ghana, especially the northern part, most of us were introduced to this beauty ingredient while growing up for a healthy skin.

Unfortunately, it loses its place once we start growing as we get exposed to other skin products that have chemicals in them which most often damage the skin.

Mostly used in the north as said earlier for numerous purposes, one may ask, why Shea Butter?

Shea Butter has been in existence for so many years and is still the ‘boss’ of the game especially during the harmattan season.

Ghanaian women spend comparable amount of monies as women from other societies do on cosmetic products that contain only 5% or less of Shea Butter with the other 95% made up of synthetic compounds to give a desired texture and fragrance.

A sizeable number of women spend a lot of money buying foreign products when they can mix shea butter with other body creams for the result they desire on their skin.

An interesting aspect about shea butter is that it has been refined and made in lotion form and body creams for those who cannot stand the smell.

Besides, it can be used for so many things. For example, the Vitamin A in Shea Butter is important for improving skin conditions that are chemically similar to those produced by the body's own sebaceous glands.

During this season I will urge each and everyone to grab some shea butter in order to moisturize the skin, reduce itch due to excessive dryness of the skin and to even out skin tone.
