Ghanaian singer-song writer, Martin King Arthur, known as Kofi Kinaata in showbiz circles, has said the lyrics of his songs are inspired by his observation of social trends.

The singer, who is known for taking on social issues through his songs, disclosed this when he visited Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr Barfuor Adjei-Barwah at the Ghanaian Embassy in Washington DC on Friday, 7 February 2020.

According to Kinaata, reggae music addresses a lot of social issues and that inspired him to also do the same.

The ‘Things fall apart’ hitmaker said: "Addressing social issues through contemporary music is not the most popular thing to do as an artist. In fact, you risk losing fans who want to dance and enjoy. But I have resolved to do it because it comes from a deep place in my heart.”

For his part, the ambassador commended the singer for creating songs which push for social discourse on pertinent issues and spur critical thinking.
