ames Aboagye, general secretary of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), has urged media owners in Ghana to stop allowing their platforms to be used by Bukom Banku to promote a lifestyle contrary to Ghanaian cultural and moral values.

Mr Aboagye described as “sad” the unguarded manner in which traditional Ghanaian media is encouraging the boxer, Bukom Banku, to promote his current bleaching craze, violent behaviour, and vulgar insults on persons who disagree with his choice of political party.

James Aboagye said though media houses may consider Bukom Banku’s continuous misbehaviours to be newsworthy, it was in the best interest of the Ghanaian society and the media to start blacklisting his publicity gimmicks.

“We shouldn’t give him the platform. He can sit in his room and do whatever he wants but we shouldn’t give him the platform to promote it,” he told Hitz Fm on Thursday.

Bukom, who is a supporter of the ruling National Democratic Congress, came out months ago to confirm that he was bleaching for Ghanaian president, John Mahama, to make him Ghana’s ambassador to Germany after winning the 2016 presidential election.

But the president is yet to make public his position on bleaching, especially that of Bukom Banku who has been campaigning for him.

The boxer has this week been trending on different social media platforms over a series of videos he recorded of himself endorsing the NDC, attacking people who don’t support his party and also defending his bleaching.

But James thinks Bukom is disgracing the seat of government and shouldn’t be given the attention he has been receiving, adding, “What he is doing is “insanity.”

“Ghana is gradually becoming a society where platforms are given to mediocre (sic). We are allowing mediocrity to have a field day. Who at all is Bukom Banku that we’re giving our television platforms to do whatever he is doing? It is very sad. It is like the Ghanaian society is losing it,” he added.

“The media provide their platforms to promote mediocrity. What he is doing is insanity. He feels so proud that he is bleaching because President John Mahama is going to make him an ambassador to Germany. He is ridiculing the seat of government.”
