Renowned reggae-dancehall musician General Marcus has chid Ghanaians to stop comparing Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy because they are both doing two different things.
Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have been in the news for the past three weeks mostly for the wrong reasons after the brawl at this year's VGMA.
Commenting on the issue, General Marcus told host DJ Nyaami on 'We Dey Vybe' on SVTV Africa that, Ghanaians must stop the comparison between the two artists because their style of music is different.
"I don't know why they're comparing Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy because they're different. Their style is different, they all have a unique style which makes it different. You cannot compare Sean Paul and Shabba, Shaggy and things, they all different. Mavado is different from Popcorn. So they all doing dancehall but differently"
Asked if reggae should be separated from dancehall in award categories, he said "The thing is that, most Dancehall artist can now do reggae. So if they separate it.....you know like Buju Banton is a dancehall artist even though he can sing reggae. So if they separate it, it's okay but then we've looked into it because a lot of people can do reggae and toast it and say they're dancehall artiste. So I think they should separate it cos there should be a difference between reggae-dancehall and reggae.
General Marcus is the first Ghanaian artist to record in Jamaica. He became a household name in the mid- 90s with reggae dancehall. Some of his hit songs are 'Me Di Wakyi Daa', 'Sa Ne Ni Agbaa', 'Akos' among others.
