Media personality, Nana Romeo, has delved into why King Promise missed out on winning the coveted 'Artiste of the Year' award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) 2024.

According to Nana Romeo, King Promise's limited interaction with traditional media platforms played a significant role in diminishing his visibility and popularity, ultimately affecting his chances of clinching the award.

Furthermore, he highlighted King Promise's absence of a new album release and fewer collaborations with fellow artistes as contributing factors to his loss at TGMA 2024.

Speaking on the E-Forum show with Abrantepa on GhanaWeb TV, Nana Romeo emphasized the importance of artistes maintaining a strong presence in traditional media, citing the example of Kofi Kinaata, who strategically utilized interviews to boost his chances of winning awards.

While acknowledging King Promise's undeniable talent, Nana Romeo stressed the necessity of artistes engaging with traditional media outlets to maximize their exposure and potential for accolades.

In contrast, Stonebwoy's win for 'Artiste of the Year' was attributed to his proactive communication with the media, as well as his impactful performances and collaborations throughout the year.

"I always emphasize that if you're an artiste and you value your self-respect to the point of avoiding traditional media, it will backfire. Kofi Kinaata is a prime example; after releasing his 'Efie Kuma' song, he consistently expressed his desire to win the Reggae Song of the Year award in every interview, and it paid off for him. King Promise is undoubtedly a talented artiste, but his presence in traditional media is notably weak.

"Without an album release, how can one anticipate victory? King Promise may have impressive numbers in digital stores, but that's not the only factor—live performances and collaborations are also crucial. Stonebwoy's success was aided by his communicativeness. His issues with Shatta played a significant role as well," Romeo explained.

Despite high expectations for King Promise to clinch the title, Stonebwoy emerged victorious at TGMA 2024, securing three awards in total.

The TGMA ceremony, held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on June 1, 2024, celebrated the achievements of Ghanaian musicians over the past year. With categories ranging from Record of the Year to Best New Artist, the awards recognized excellence across various genres and aspects of the music industry.

The nominees were selected by the Ghana Music Award Academy Board, comprising professionals representing diverse sectors of the music industry, ensuring a fair and comprehensive judging process.
