Media personality, Nana Yaa Brefo, has disclosed that the Kumasi International Airport was closed down after its commissioning by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region.

She pointed out that the closure was due to ongoing construction works needed to finalize the project.

She further mentioned that the airport is scheduled to commence full operations in September 2024, allowing for public access and use, despite the recent commissioning.

During an Instagram live session monitored by GhanaWeb, Yaa Brefo mentioned that the old Kumasi Airport is currently in use to allow for the completion works on the new one to be done.

"After the Kumasi International Airport was commissioned yesterday, it was closed down again. I've heard that the airport's use will start in June, but full operation is set for September.

"Despite its commissioning yesterday, we couldn't use it. So, we are still using the old airport," she stated.
