You said you knew about three other women who have gone through the same treatment the man matted out to you. That means you were fully aware of his behaviour before going into the marriage, like you referencing his mother that you knew before going into it. I'll suggest to you that you went into that marriage b'cos the man was popular and you yourself wanted to be counted amongst the most popular people around.
